Militants shot dead National Conference municipal councillor Mohammed Ashraf at Babademb in Srinagar [Images] on Friday morning, police sources said.

The councillor was walking on the road when militants fired several rounds from a pistol from close range.

Police rushed rushed the councillor to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed on the way.

No arrests have been made so far, the sources added.
