Nagapattinam District Collector J Radhakrishnan, whose handling of the post-tsunami situation in the worst-hit region of Tamil Nadu earned him international acclaim, has been invited by the United States Department of Education for a three-week visit to the country.

Radhakrishnan has been invited to deliver lectures and participate in discussions on tsunami-related issues at places such as Washington, Seattle, Florida [Images], San Francisco and Hawaii, official sources said on Thursday.

The collector was awaiting clearance from the Centre and the state governments, sources said.

Former US president Bill Clinton [Images], who visited Nagapattinam on May 27, had lauded Radhakrishnan for his work in the tsunami-hit areas.

Three months ago, the collector had visited Sri Lanka [Images] along with senior Indian Administrative Service officer Shanta Sheela Nair on an invitation from the Sri Lankan task force to share disaster management expertise.
