The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday suspended 13 officials, including Ghaziabad's additional district magistrate Chandra Prakash, for 'lapse in protocol' during state Urban Development and Parliamentary minister Azam Khan's visit to the district.
Policemen had reportedly failed to recognise the minister at a function for which he was invited to lay the foundation stone of a Haj house on Sunday. The cops blocked the minister's entry even after he disclosed his identity. Annoyed with this, Khan walked out of the function.
Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was also scheduled to attend the function, stayed away. The function was subsequently cancelled.
City Magistrate Sarvjeet Singh, assistant superintendents of police Umesh Srivastava and A K Jain and six sub-inspectors are also among those suspended, official sources said.
