Putting all speculation to rest, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday said there was no move to make extradited underworld don and main accused in 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case Abu Salem [Images] an approver.

"There is no confusion and there should be no confusion over this. I do not know from where the rumours started about him turning an approver. He is a main accused," CBI Director U S Misra told reporters after inaugurating the DNA laboratory at the CBI headquarters in New Delhi.

About the confessional statement made by the underworld don and whether the agency was contemplating to take any further action on this, Misra said, "About his confessional statement, I will not like to divulge anything as the concerned court has asked the CBI not to reveal anything about the case. All I can say is that investigations are going in the right direction."

Asked about the allegation made by Salem's girlfriend and little-known Bollywood actress Monica Bedi [Images] that she was in illegal confinement of the underworld don, the CBI Director said that the matter was being investigated.
