Police in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir have arrested some militants and seized weapons from them, amid reports that some of the jihadi groups whose terror training camps were destroyed in the devastating earthquake were either re-establishing their camps or carrying out relief activities. Two activists of "an outlawed religious outfit" were arrested after a raid in a house in PoK capital Muzaffarabad, Pakistan daily Jung reported on Wednesday without naming the group. Five Kalashnikoves, 193 rounds, one pistol, were seized among other weapons and their vehicle, the report said. Later, the President of the banned group was sent out of Muzaffarabad and asked not to enter the limits of PoK, the report said. It was not clear whether the arrest of the militants was due to the visit of President Pervez Musharraf [Images] to the quake-battered town on Tuesday, where he announced that the Line of Control would be opened for people from Jammu and Kashmir [Images] to come to PoK for relief activities.
Reports from Muzaffarabad said that members of Jama-ut-Dawa, the parent organisation of the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Tayiba, Hizbul Mujahideen and other militants groups were taking part in the relief activities. Meanwhile, ruling and opposition parties of PoK have overwhelmingly supported Musharraf's proposal. The Muslim Conference President Sardar Atiq said there was no harm in softening LoC and seeking help from across the border for rescue and relief work.
"It is a human tragedy and the entire world, cutting across the line of religion and race, should use all the resources to help and rehabilitate victims of earthquake in PoK," said Atique, son of former PoK President Qayyum Khan.
