The Tangdhar-Teetwal road network, damaged in the October 8 quake, was reopened on Friday, facilitating the supply of relief material to nearly 70 quake-affected villages in Jammu and Kashmir [Images] while the Uri-Muzaffarabad road will become motorable by early December, the state government said.

"The worst-hit Tanghdhar-Teetwal road and its periphery border road networks connecting over 70 odd villages have been reopened on Friday after clearing of debris from multiple landslides and repairs," said J&K Roads and Building Minister G A Mir.

"Now with the reopening of the Teetwal border road, essential supplies, especially tents and relief teams would reach the villages immediately," said Mir, who, along with Sopore member of Legislative Assembly Haji Rasheed, was monitoring the road repair work in Uri-Tanghar-Teetwal belt of Kashmir valley.

The reopening of the road was done by the Border Road Organisation and Mir's ministry jointly, he said, adding that more such roads were being cleared.

However, he said the Uri-Muzaffarabad road, which has been blocked and damaged by landslides and sinking of ground, would take one-and-a-half months to become motorable.

Mir, who, along with Union Housing and Parliamentary Minister Gulam Nabi Azad, surveyed the damage on this prestigious road, asked the authorities to make it motorable within the set deadline.

"Working is going on it on war-footing and we hope that after one-and-a-half months it would be again humming with traffic," Mir said.
