A Kolkata club that organises a community Durga Puja has accused chocolate giant Cadbury's of using pictures of its deities on premium chocolate wrappers.

Cadbury's has published pictures of Goddess Durga and a pantheon of other deities on the wrappers of its 'Celebrations' range of chocolates.

City-based club, Suruchi Sangha, has claimed the picture on the wrappers was that of their 2003 Durga Puja deities and has sent off a legal notice to Cadbury's Mumbai office.

The club members have claimed that the company didn't take their permission before printing the picture.

The legal notice has asked the company to stop using the picture and also pay the club Rs 1.1 million for illegal use of publicity material. 

"Our club won the award for the best puja in Kolkata in 2003. Cadbury's has used the picture of our deities from that year," said Suruchi Sangha member and lawyer Tamal Mukherjee.

"They didn't show the courtesy of even asking for our permission, leave alone pay any money. It's the same as stealing."

No comment was immediately available from Cadbury's.
