U S Misra, Director, Central Bureau of Investigation, said that he has not received the report from the investigating officer with comments from the legal department about the possible action to be taken against the accused persons in the Chittisinghpora massacre case.
"I expect the report to reach me by the end of next week and we shall initiate action against the accused persons soon," Misra told rediff.com in New Delhi on Friday. Thirty-six Sikhs were massacred by terrorists in Chittisinghpora in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir [Images] when Bill Clinton [Images] visited India in March 2001.
Jammu and Kashmir police had gunned down five persons claiming that they had participated in the terrorist violence but following angry protests Jammu and Kashmir government, ordered an inquiry and suspended Indian Police Service officer Farooq Ahmad.
The matter was subsequently handed over to the CBI for further investigations and it gave clean chit to Farooq Ahmad who has since been reinstated. The investigations revealed the hand of four army officers in the alleged killing of five innocents.
"I noticed a report in a leading newspaper. I do not know what is there in the report. Investigation is done at various levels and then a legal opinion is given. I expect the file to reach me next week with legal opinion and then we would decide what action to take," Misra said.
