Eight people, including six civilian passers by and two paramilitary troopers were wounded in a grenade attack in Srinagar [Images] on Wednesday afternoon.

Police in Srinagar said militants threw a hand grenade at a Central Reserve Police Force picket in the densely populated Batmaloo area of the city.

"The grenade exploded injuring six civilians and two CRPF jawans, all of whom have been taken to the SMHS hospital for treatment," a senior police officer said.

The grenade explosion caused panic in the area as the city's main bus stand is also located there.

No militant group has so far owned responsibility for the explosion.
