Coming out in support of Guru Ramdev, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav Wednesday said Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Brinda Karat allegations against the spiritual leader were based on charges levelled by the media earlier against him.

"The allegations against Ramdev were levelled by the media earlier. Karat is now basing her own allegations on these media reports," he said at a function in Agra [Images].

Yadav said he was with Swami Ramdev on the issue as he had taken up cudgels against multinational drug companies.

The swami was also promoting indigenous medicines, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister said.

Karat had alleged that Ramdev's medicines not only contained animal and human parts, but also violated licensing and labelling provisions.

In a swift rejoinder to Karat, Ramdev had said he was ready for a probe into the matter and accused Karat of acting at the behest of multi-national drug companies.
