Asserting that the Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam-led Democratic Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu was intact, Patali Makkal Katchi founder Dr S Ramadoss on Thursday said Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was hitting out against the PMK as her 'ploy to weaken the party had failed'.

Talking to reporters, he strongly condemned the chief minister for making several 'baseless' allegations against the PMK and said that by targetting it, ahead of the coming Assembly polls, she could not win the sympathy of the people.

Claiming that the All India Anna Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam, headed by Jayalalithaa, would be isolated in the electoral arena, he said her hopes of weaning away the PMK to its fold would not succeed.

"She will not succeed in her efforts. The DPA, of which the PMK is a key constituent, is firmly intact. All the seven parties will be with the DPA and it will unseat the anti-people Jayalalithaa government, winning all the 234 assembly seats," he added.

He also dismissed the allegations levelled by three Dalit PMK legislators, who quit the party and joined the AIADMK, and said PMK was the only party that was at the forefront of taking up the cause of Dalits.

By engineering defections of three PMK MLAs, she was trying to create an impression that the PMK had split. "The PMK is with the DPA and will fight the elections as its constituent," he added.

The other reason for the chief minister to target the PMK was that the latter had been exposing the government before the people on various projects, including the Mono Rail project, which were aimed at cheating them, Dr Ramadoss charged.
