Bharatiya Janata Party Friday accused the Dharam Singh government of delaying moving the motion of confidence in the Assembly to buy time and "manipulate".

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, party senior leader Venkaiah Naidu said it was surprising that the motion had not even been listed on the agenda of business of the Assembly and accused the government of trying to "avoid defeat".

Naidu said the government should have taken up the motion on "a priority basis". He said he was at a loss to understand why the "government has failed in its duty".

He said the BJP would take up the issue with Governor T N Chaturvedi.

Naidu said, prima facie, BJP was not happy with one week given by the governor for the chief minister to prove his majority.
