The Bharatiya Janata Party, on Tuesday, unmistakably distanced itself from the Rahul Mahajan episode. Addressing newspersons in Bhubaneswar, party president Rajnath Singh asserted Rahul was not a BJP member, and added the matter was in the hands of the police.
Answering a question, Singh maintained Rahul might have expressed the desire to get involved in party work but he was not a BJP member.
But aside from this, for the most part, Singh chose to hedge questions. Prodded for his comments on the purported drug abuse, he said, "The police will inquire into the matter. I have no comment to make."
He even declined to comment on former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's reported remarks that the alleged drug abuse was 'a mistake'.
Also, asked whether the party was closing its doors on late leader Pramod Mahajan's son, the BJP chief merely said, "I am not able to hear you."
