Talking to rediff.com, Manish Aggarwal, additional deputy commissioner, New Delhi district, said on Thursday that the police was not taken aback by the developments.
"We are still discussing if we can move the high court. Another significant development that went unnoticed was Karan Ahuja's statement, which was recorded in the judge's presence and reveals a lot about the incident," he said.
Aggarwal added - "As for the Mahajan family's charge that we have framed Rahul, I would like to say that we have nothing against the boy. We were not invited to the party. We were invited by Apollo Hospital after Bibek Maitra's death. And what would we get by framing Rahul?"
He also rejected Pravin Mahajan's claim that Pramod Mahajan's shooting and Rahul's case are inter-related. "We do not give credence to rumours or conspiracy theories. We also heard them when we began investigations in the Rahul Mahajan case but we found no evidence. We have gone step by step strictly on the basis of scientific evidence. What Pravin Mahajan or anyone else says is none of our business," he said.
After Rahul Mahajan's release Wednesday night, his family, particularly his uncle Gopinath Munde, said he had been framed. However, the Mahajans also brushed aside Pravin's statement.
