Leader of Opposition L K Advani [Images] has asked legal experts in BJP to study all legal aspects to find whether Sonia can be disqualified from the Lok Sabha for being Chairperson of the National Advisory Committee and the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra told reporters after a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party in New Delhi [Images].
Advani was responding to suggestions raised in this regard by party parliamentarians, including former Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Najma Heptulla [Images], during the hour-long meeting.
"After studying all the legal aspects, the BJP will take the next course," Malhotra said when asked whether the party would move the Election Commission in this regard.
BJP move comes a day after the poll panel recommended disqualification of Samajwadi Party parliamentarian and actress Jaya Bachchan on the ground that she was holding an office of profit as the Chairperson of Uttar Pradesh [Images] Film Development Board. A similar petition seeking action against Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh [Images] has also been filed before the Election Commission.
