The government on Sunday continued its efforts for a consensus on a comprehensive amendment to the law relating to office of profit with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi holding consultations with Janata Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav and a number of other political leaders on the second day.

Dasmunsi met Sharad Yadav for half an hour and spoke over phone to a number of leaders, including Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh whose party Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan's disqualification triggered the controversy over office of profit.

Dasmunsi also spoke to Anant Geete of Shiv Sena, Dayanidhi Maran of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, N Jyothi of A ll IndiaAnna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Arjun Charan Sethi of Biju Janata Dal and Arun Sarma of Asom Ghana Parishad.

Dasmunsi, who had initiated the process of consultations on Saturday by talking to senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani among others, said on Sunday that the leaders favoured a consensus on amending the law but there were differences when Parliament should be reconvened for the purpose.

While some leaders suggested early reconvening of Parliament session, others felt the House meets as scheduled-- around May 10 after the assembly polls in five states, he said.

Emerging from the meeting with Dasmunsi, JD(U) parliamentary board chairman Sharad Yadav said the matter should be resolved soon by amending the law.

On the issue of Parliament reconvening, Yadav said he assured the Parliamentary Affairs Minister that his party would support whatever proposal the government puts forward.
