The Mumbai police on Friday said they have arrested the man suspected to have attacked  three women with a hammer in Mumbai's suburbs and robbing them.

Dubbed the Hammer-man by the tabloids, the suspect used to knock his victims with a hammer before fleeing with their money.

Vikas Tak, 26, was arrested on Friday afternoon immediately after he attacked a 30-year-old woman, who was getting out of her apartment in suburban Goregaon, Additional Commissioner of Police (north) Tukaram Chavan said.

Tak is suspected to be involved in at least three more attacks at Jogeshwari and Goregaon, Chavan said.

"He attacked a 15-year-old girl at Goregaon this week," he added.

The police say that Tak is a mentally sound person and used to attack the victim only to rob them.

Tak is said to have been educated till class five and comes from a middle class family staying in western Mumbai, Chavan said. He added that he did not have any past criminal record.
