The Border Security Force claimed on Wednesday to have achieved 'zero infiltration' along the 186-km stretch of the international border in Jammu and Kashmir [Images] this year as there was 'no violation' of the Indo-Pak truce.

It said the 'zero infiltration' was achieved using advanced surveillance equipment coupled with border fencing.

"Infiltration this year is down to zero. Not a single report has been recieved of infiltration taking place in this sector this year," S C Vaid, inspector-general of BSF told reporters.

He said the area was 'totally peaceful' and the truce between India and Pakistan was holding.

Besides battlefield surveillance systems, thermal imagers and night-vision devices, other state-of-the-art surviellance equipment was being acquired in efforts to modernise the force, Vaid said.

BSF troops also arrested 3,522 Bangladesh and Myanmar nationals trying to exfiltrate into Pakistan via the IB in the past five years, with 309 Bangladeshis and 50 Myanmarese aprehended this year, Vaid said.

Nine militants were killed in 17 encounters in the Jammu region and 19 AK assault rifles, 64 magazines, six pistols, 62 grenades, two IEDs, 1,861 ammunition, 67 kg of explosives, five landmines, 173 detonators, 15 wireless sets, Rs 17,674 in fake currency, seven mobile and three satellite phones hauled in various operations during the period, he added.

The IGP said 184.8 km of the border had been fenced and work was in progress on the remaining 1.2 km of the 186-km stretch.
