The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday dubbed as traitors all those people who are asking for the convicted mastermind of the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament, Mohammed Afzal Guru, to be pardoned.
"All those who are supporting the demand for clemency for Afzal Guru are traitors. [Jammu and Kashmir [Images] Chief Minister] Ghulam [Images] Nabi Azad is a traitor," party president Rajnath Singh said in New Delhi.
He was addressing a protest organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva [Images] Morcha.
Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan, who also participated in the demonstration, said, "Afzal has committed a crime which cannot be pardoned. He has attacked the temple of the country, our Parliament, and for that he should be hanged."
Youth wing president Anil Sharma said, "Afzal Guru should be hanged and supporters like Ghulam Nabi Azad should be declared traitors."
He further said that if Afzal is not hanged, the activists will stage nationwide protests. The protestors planned to march to Congress president Sonia Gandhi's [Images] official residence, but the police detained them outside the BJP headquarters.
