Bharatiya Janata Party has condemned the statement of former Jammu and Kashmir [Images] chief minister Farooq Abdullah, made in a television interview that the whole of Kashmir would go up in flames if Mohammed Afzal Guru is hanged for conspiring in the attack on Indian Parliament on December 13, 2001.

"We condemn the statement," Ravi Shankar Prasad, spokesman for the party, told newspersons in New Delhi on Monday.

Prasad termed the utterances of Dr Abdullah as totally irresponsible, particularly when coming from a person who held the office of the chief minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Our state unit has issued a statement in Jammu," Prasad said.

He said that the government of India should not hold talks with the government of Pakistan unless and until they go back to the commitment made on January 6, 2004, when Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf [Images] had vowed not to allow terrorists to operate from the Pakistani soil.

Prasad was commenting on the news report that the foreign secretary level talks would resume in the first week of November.
