A TADA court on Wednesday exempted actor Sanjay Dutt [Images] and 25 other accused from personal appearance until further orders in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case.

All those accused appeared before designated Judge P D Kode in accordance with summons issued to them.

Throughout the proceedings, Dutt, Dressed in blue jeans and sky blue shirt, was sitting on a bench with the other accused.

He was allowed to leave at about 2.30 pm.

Several fans had gathered outside the court and ran after Dutt as he emerged.

However, Dutt managed to get into his car with help of the policemen on duty.

Outside the court, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told reporters that the verdict on Dutt is expected after Diwali holidays.

Dutt is charged with possessing and destroying an AK-56 rifle.

It is the case of the Central Bureau of Investigation that co-accused Baba Musa Chohan, Samir Hingora and Hanif Kadawala had gone to Sanjay's suburban Bandra residence at the instance of prime conspirator Anees Ibrahim and delivered three rifles and ammunition to the actor.

Sanjay allegedly retained one rifle and returned the rest.

It is also alleged that the weapons returned by Sanjay were then transported by co-accused Mansoor Ahmed to the house of another accused, Zebunisa Kazi.  While Mansoor is in custody, Kazi has been granted bail.

Sanjay is also charged with destroying the weapon with the help of his friends -- Yusuf Nullwala, Ajay Marwah, Kersi Adajania and Rusi Mulla. All of them have been granted bail.

The CBI alleged that Sanjay was shooting in Mauritius when he learnt about his complicity from media reports. He asked his friends to go to his house and destroy the weapon. Later, the rifle was destroyed in a foundry.
