The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's support to the formation of Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka [Images] was only moral in nature and "to show the world that Eelam Tamils are not orphans," party leader Vaiko said on Thursday night.

"The party's Eelam policy has been the same, whether it be in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist Party-Marxist or even the Congress," he told party workers in Madurai.

The MDMK would never cause India to disintegrate and would fight for the nation's unity, he added.

Vaiko has been opposing the Norwegian-brokered peace talks between the Sri Lankan government and Tamil Tigers.
