Former Bharatiya Janata Party president M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday claimed that his party's prospects in Uttar Pradesh, Naidu claimed his party was heading for power after completion of the third phase of elections.

"We are getting majority. The people of Uttar Pradesh have realised that they were being used for the vote bank politics. They have understood the games being played by other parties. The upper castes have realised that Bahujan Samaj Party is going to make them sit at the feet of Mayawati once the elections are over," Naidu, who is also in charge of Uttar Pradesh affairs, said.

"Mulayam Singh is asking for votes, telling Yadavs and Muslims that he would go to jail if he did not win. Some journalist friends asked me where is Kalyan Singh? Let us wait for the opening of the electronic voting machines and the results would be before you. Kalyan Singh is going to win the elections," he noted.

Before addressing the press conference, Naidu called on former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and apprised him of developments in the state.

"Atalji was fairly satisfied. He is not well and hence he has not been able to campaign. He will cast his vote on April 28 in Lucknow and if his health improves, he may address a meeting in his home constituency," Naidu said.

Naidu, who is not addressing any election rallies, is busy organising shakti camps, which keep detailed check on number of workers who are in the field, talk to those who have not moved out and ensure that the party's message is spread amongst the voters properly.

The party is releasing an appeal from Vajpayee in local newspapers to woo the voters to their side.
