The Hyderabad police have set up a committee comprising seven senior police officers to prepare a comprehensive draft for the creation of an Anti Terrorism Cell to deal with terrorist organisations and sleeper cells in Andhra Pradesh.

The committee will study various anti terrorism cells in the country and it is most likely to be modelled on the lines of the ATCs in Mumbai and Kashmir.

A senior police officer said that such a cell is the need of the hour and the government is taking the matter seriously.

In view of major national and international events apart from the Ganesh utsav coming up in the next few months, the city police reviewed security arrangements with various agencies in wake of the last Saturday's twin blasts.

The city police are taking no chances and have beefed up security for the oncoming Ganesha celebrations. Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh held several meetings with top police officers to review security. The meetings also involved officials of the Andhra Pradesh State Transport Corporation, railway police and airport security.

Meanwhile all theatres in the city have said that no one will be allowed to carry bags into the theatres. At a meeting of the theatre owners and managements, the police directed them to install door frame metal detectors and frisk people coming into the theatres.

A senior police officer told rediff.com over phone that there is a need to bring back the feel good factor in Hyderabad. "Hyderabad is a tourist spot and the terror tag may scare away tourists. We have to take all necessary measures to ensure that tourism does not suffer and people start avoiding this place, he added.
