Keeping the situation in Pakistan in mind, the Government of India has decided to temporarily discontinue bus services between Srinagar [Images] and Muzaffarabad, and several Indo-Pak train services, including the Delhi-Amritsar-Attari Link, Samjhauta Express, Munabao-Thar Express, and Jodhpur-Munabao Link Express, until further notice.

A government handout said that Pakistan's railways have been informed of the decision.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] reviewed the country's security arrangements on Thursday night after the assassination of former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto [Images] in Rawalpindi.

Nantional Security Advisor M K Narayanan informed leaders of major political parties of the government's decision to close international borders to prevent terrorists from Pakistan from sneaking into India.

Former Intelligence Bureau chief Ajit Doval said that this is part of the internal exercise to tighten up security arrangements on India's side of the border. "I would say that it is a compulsive move," Doval said.

"It was with the deepest sense of horror and sorrow that I have learnt of the tragic demise of Benazir Bhutto. In her sad and untimely demise, Pakistan and South Asia have lost an outstanding political leader, who was passionately committed to the cause of moderation, democracy and peace and friendship between our two countries," the prime minister wrote in the condolence book kept at the Pakistan high commission.
