Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati may land in trouble ahead of the Assembly elections as the Central Bureau of Investigation has submitted all the material and documents, including the investigation report in the Rs 175 crore Taj Heritage Corridor case before the designated court in Lucknow.

Complying with Supreme Court directions, the CBI, whose closure report against her was quashed by a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, placed all material and documents, including the report of its superintendent of police under whose supervision the case was investigated, before the special magistrate for taking appropriate action.

The agency had come in for severe criticism from the Supreme Court on November 27, 2006, for taking legal opinion in the case despite the fact that the entire investigating team favouring Mayawati's prosecution.

"In the present case, there was no difference of opinion on investigation by the investigating team. Therefore, there was no question of referring the matter to AG for his opinion," the order said.

Now, as per the Supreme Court direction, the magistrate will proceed strictly in accordance with Section 173 (2) of the CrPC on the basis of material placed before it.

The material submitted by the CBI before the court, however, did not include the report of the central vigilance commissioner and Attorney General Milon K Banerjee, who had favoured closure of case against Mayawati.
