The police on Tuesday set up camps in four places to restore peace in trouble-torn Nandigram even as Union Information Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi arrived on a visit to the area hit by violence over resistance to the proposed Special Economic Zone project.

A combined police force pitched camps at Hazra Kata, Tekhali Bazar, Basulichak, scene of yesterday's police firing and Bhangabera bridge, the Superintendent of Police, East Midnapur, A K Dutta said. Dasmunshi will visit Sonachura and other affected areas and address a public meeting at Nandigram.

Inspector General (Western Range) Arun Gupta said no incidents of violence had been reported from Nandigram since Monday night after Monday's 24-hour bandh in protest against Saturday's bloodbath which claimed six lives.

Unconfirmed reports, however, said miscreants hurled bombs at Sarberia village on Monday night.

Roadblocks had been put up at some places on the road from Nandigram to Hazra Kata where the protesters had also damaged a bridge and the police had to march in those stretches to set up camps, they said.

The CPI(M) on Tuesday staged a peace march in Nandigram block from Tekhali to Kunjopur after an all party peace meeting held at Nandigram police station on Monday night fell through.

Nandigram has witnessed repeated violence since January 3 with the Bhumi Uchched Pratirodh Committee spearheading the agitation against the land acquisition. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party President Rajnath Singh en route to Assam said in Kolkata on Monday that a five-member team of BJP members led by Sushma Swaraj would visit Nandigram on Wednesday to have first and account of the situation there.
