The Central inquiry committee investigating the Nithari serial killings has found serious lapses on the part of police in handling cases of missing persons and will submit its report on January 17. The report, to be made public on January 17, will be given to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to aid the premier investigating agency in its probe, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury said. The four-member committee, headed by Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development Manjula Krishnan, has found grave police lapses in the matter, especially while dealing with cases of missing persons, sources said.
While around 40 children have gone missing from Nithari over the last two years, families of the missing persons have alleged that the police did not handle their complaints properly.
Chowdhury said her ministry has decided to open a trauma centre in Nithari to help the traumatised parents of the victims to cope with the tragedy. The committee after its visit to Nithari had recommended that a counseling centre be opened in the area to help the parents of the victims.
"An anganwadi centre will also be opened in Nithari where parents can leave their children in safety," Chowdhury said.
