The Samajwadi Party on Thursday said Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulyam Singh Yadav would file a review petition in the Supreme Court for a probe by an agency other than the Central Bureau of Investigation into the allegations of disproportionate assets against him.

The CBI worked under the "pressure" of ruling Congress at the Centre and it could not be termed as an "independent agency," SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav told newsmen in Lucknow soon after the SC ordered a preliminary probe by CBI into the allegation that Mulayam Singh and his family members have amassed assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

He said the allegations against Mulayam Singh and his family members could be investigated by a sitting judge.

"We do not trust the CBI. Its track record in the Quattrocchi matter and some other cases is not clean," Ram Gopal alleged.
