The Uttar Pradesh government has denied reports that Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi [Images] was on the hit-list of the three Jaish-e-Mohammed militants arrested in Lucknow on Friday.

"The investigating agencies have so far not disclosed the name of the politician, who was the target of the militants. The interrogation is still on," special secretary (Home) Mohammad Idris said.

About Rahul Gandhi's name in the hit-list, Idris said he did not know who had taken his name and how it was taken.

"We have no such information," he said.

After the arrest of the three militants -- Mohammad Abid alias Faate, Usuf alias Faisal and Mirza Rashid Baig -- state police chief Vikram Singh told reporters that the trio had been trained to kidnap a leading Uttar Pradesh-based politician to create terror in the country and exert pressure to get 42 dreaded terrorists freed from lodged in various jails.
