Despite facing strong dissidence and all-round criticism of Narendra Modi's functioning in Gujarat, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday said the chief minister's "aura" will lead the party to regain power in the state.
"The party's plank in Gujarat will be development and the aura which Chief Minister Narendra Modi enjoys is enough to bring the party back to power," BJP president Rajnath Singh said in Delhi.
On being asked if he feared dissident activities spoiling the party's chances, he said, "The results are obvious and cannot be altered by any activity. I would rather appeal to all leaders to be one in the road to victory."
"The party is sure to win Gujarat as well as the Himachal elections and our assumptions are the reflection of the ground realities," Rajnath said.
Rajnath, who had a meeting with the party's Gujarat election incharge Arun Jaitely soon after the announcement of the poll dates by the Election Commission on Wednesday evening added, "confidence of the party" was reasonable and "only time would prove that it is not an over-confidence."
The saffron party also sought to put to rest any probable damage of Bahujan Samaj Party's presence in the Gujarat contest.
"BSP will only help us improve the margin of victory," he said.
