The Left-UPA committee on the Indo-US nuclear deal will meet for the third time on Wednesday amid a fresh warning from the Communist Party of India-Marxist against implementing the pact and to keep it on hold for at least six months.

As CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat told the government not to operationalise the deal for six months and await the outcome of a discussion in Parliament, Left leaders on Tuesday held consultations among themselves as well as with members of scientific community.

The Left parties and the government have already exchanged written views on the matter.

The government had on Monday sent a 15-page response to the five-page Left note on the Indo-US nuclear issue.      

The Left parties have also warned that Atomic Energy Commission chairman Anil Kakodkar, who is in Vienna for the IAEA meet, should not start negotiations on India-specific safeguards that would operationalise the agreement.

In their note, the Left parties had articulated their concerns over the possible impact of the Hyde Act on India's foreign policy and nuclear programmes.

The note covers two aspects -- the political implications of the US law on India's foreign and security policies as well as the technical aspects of the isue, including self-reliance in the nuclear sector.
