Claiming that the recent remarks by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Lord Ram had "wounded" his religious feelings, a lawyer has filed a complaint in a Chennai  court seeking a direction to the police to investigate the matter and file a report.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Rajagopalan posted the complaint to September 27 when it would be taken up for further proceedings after scrutiny.

The complainant, R K Venkatesh, an advocate in the Madras High Court, has contended that the remarks by Karunanidhi questioning Lord Ram's existence had wounded his religious feelings.

He also stated that he had filed a complaint with Tamil Nadu Director General of Police P Rajendran, but "there was no action". Hence the present complaint.

 The complainant accused Karunanidhi of committing offences under section 295 a (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and section 298 (uttering word etc. with deliberate intent to hurt religious feelings) of the IPC.

A petition, seeking removal of Karunanidhi from chief ministership for his remarks against Lord Ram, was also filed in the Madras High Court earlier this week.
