With issues like the India-United States nuclear agreement and the Ram Sethu plaguing the Centre, Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani has asked party workers to be prepared for mid-term elections.

"Party workers should be prepared for an early poll to the Lok Sabha," Advani said addressing a public meeting in Tirunelveli on Wednesday night.

He recalled the 'radical political changes' in the country after the Allahabad High Court set aside the election of former prime minister Indira Gandhi [Images] from Rae Bareli in 1971.

"Similarly, Left Front's opposition to the Indo-US nuclear deal and Tamil Nadu's ruling party's attempt to destroy Ram Sethu would bring a radical change in Indian politics," he said, adding that the Lok Sabha polls could take place in 2008.

The former deputy prime minister said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance was "fully prepared" to withstand the pressure and sanctions from the US when India conducted nuclear tests in 1998.

Unfortunately, the present Congress-led United Progressive Alliance has given an undertaking in writing that India will not conduct nuclear tests in future in exchange for procuring nuclear fuel and equipment for reactors, he said.

"The BJP is opposing the clause because it will affect the country's defence preparedness badly," Advani said.

Lashing out at the Centre for questioning the existence of Lord Ram in the controversial affidavit before the Supreme Court, Advani said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi [Images] should apologise for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
