Sharply attacking the United States House of Representatives resolution on Tibet as 'rude interference' in its internal affairs, China on Friday demanded that American lawmakers immediately stop 'remarks and deeds' that hurt Chinese feelings and harmed Sino-US relations.
"China is strongly indignant and opposed to this resolution," foreign ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu said, a day after the resolution was passed calling on Beijing [Images] to end its crackdown in Tibet [Images] and release Tibetans imprisoned in peaceful demonstrations.
The resolution, which also asked for unfettered access to international monitors and journalists, was proposed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi who said, "Most insulting of all is that China insists that the (Olympic) torch go through Tibet. The world should not allow that to happen".
Pelosi had invited the anger of China recently after she met the Dalai Lama [Images] in India and expressed her full support to Tibetans in exile.
Jiang said, "What happened in Lhasa on March 14 was not at all a peaceful demonstration or non-violence activities as labelled by the Dalai clique, but naked crimes of violence".
She said some US Congress members 'utterly confounded' right and wrong by turning a 'blind eye' to the mobs which conducted looting, arson and assaulted people, while leaving the 'Dalai clique which masterminded the violent crimes free from condemnation' and instead blaming the Chinese government.
Accusing some US lawmakers of harbouring 'hidden motives', she said, "Here we sternly warn those Congress members. The more you do to shield the Dalai clique and disrupt the Beijing Olympics [Images], the more thoroughly their true colours will be exposed".
China demanded that that the US Congress see clearly the 'Dalai Lama's true colour' of engaging in activities of splitting China in the 'cloak of religion' and realise the nature of its 'real antagonism and violence under the disguise of seeking dialogue and peace'.
She said China also demanded that the US Congress "immediately stop wrongful remarks and deeds that interfere in Chinas internal affairs, hurt the Chinese peoples feelings and harm the China-US relations," official Xinhua
