All democratic countries including India should stay away from the opening ceremony of the Beijing [Images] Olympics [Images], beginning in August, in order to protest the violent incidents in Tibet [Images], Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief K S Sudarshan said on Friday.

Sudarshan criticised the Indian government for continuing dialogue with China despite the violent incidents in Tibet.

"All democratic countries including India should boycott the Olympics ceremony and the games," said Sudarshan.

The RSS chief was speaking at a function organised by the Tibetan Solidarity Committee, seeking support for the cause of the people of Tibet.

"India should boycott the opening ceremony of Olympics and the event in order to protest against the atrocities being carried out against the Tibetan people by China," International Secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Ashok Singhal said.

"The Indian government has abstained from its duty and should have ensured that a delegation was sent to Tibet to investigate the violence over there," Singhal said.

He also promised full support to the Dalai Lama [Images] and to the Tibetan people in their fight for autonomy.

Hundreds of monks and Tibetans-in-exile also attended the rally, where they raised a demand for contingent of free media to be sent to Tibet and autonomy for the region.
