The US has said its policy on the Kashmir issue that it should be resolved bilaterally remains unchanged, days after Pakistan Premier Yousuf Raza Gilani sought its support in the settlement of the problem with India.
"No policy changes," State Department spokesman McCormack told reporters in Washington on Thursday when asked whether the issue was discussed during the visit of the Pakistani leader to Washington and if there was a policy change in the US.
In his public address at the Council on Foreign Relations during his Washington visit, Gilani had said Washington "should encourage and support this issue."
When pressed on how he would want the United States to play a role over Kashmir, Gilani quipped, "Actually what the United States really want, they can do it."
