A man was gored to death and 100 others were seriously injured in a Jallikattu (bull taming) event at Papappan Vidudhi in Pudukkottai near Tamil Nadu on Saturday.

Ranganathan, 40, was a resident of Nerunchipatti village. He was not a participant but had come to watch the event, when a chased bull gored him to death.

Though he was rushed to the Government Headquarters Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

The injured were being treated at the health camp erected at the venue and the Headquarters Hospital, police added.

The Supreme Court had recently laid down guidelines in the conduct of the event to prevent casualty among people and cruelty to animals, following petitions from animal lovers to ban Jallikattu.
