Rajnath Singh, president of Bhartiya Janata Party, has called for a nationwide bandh on July 3, to protest against the recall of the cabinet order by Jammu and Kashmir [Images] government of the land that was allotted to the Amarnath Shrine board.

According to BJP, fundamentalist muslims had taken to street to give the allotment that was perfectly justified a communal colour.

The meeting called by Singh was attended by senior leaders of the party. Though Vishwa Hindu Parishad has also called for a bandh on the same day but he refused to specify whether the party would join the bandh called by VHP. "Let the two things be separate," Singh emphasised.

Rajnath Singh said that the matter had been discussed in Jammu and Kashmir high court and the court had passed orders saying that so long as permanent structures did not come up, it was alright to allot land to the Shrine board but only after the forest department and the environment ministry of the state government give their clearance.

" We understand that in this case the requisite clearances had been obtained by Gulam Nabi Azad government.

"The  Bhartiya Janata Party would hold a bandh on July 3 and follow it up with rallies in important towns and cities to register their resentment. We want the cancellation order to be taken back and the land allotted to Shrine Board to be restored to the board who have paid Rs 2.5 crore as an instalment for acquiring the land," Singh said.
