Three persons were injured in police firing in the city outskirts of Jammu on Tuesday morning, even as authorities imposed curfew like restrictions in Srinagar [Images] to prevent a rally at the historic Jamia Masjid called by the separatists.

A senior police officer said police had to open fire at stone-throwing protestors at Muthi in Jammu to disperse a mob protesting against the cancellation of forest land allotment to Sri Amarnath Shrine Board.

The injured were taken to Jammu Medical College hospital for treatment.

High tension has gripped the entire Jammu city where a 72-hour-long bandh called by various organisations is in force for the second day on Tuesday.

Shops in Jammu city are shut and traffic is off the roads.

Various political organisations, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Shiv Sena have called for a bandh in Jammu against the cancellation of the land allotment order.

Meanwhile, situation in Srinagar was tense on Tuesday morning after authorities imposed strict security restrictions to foil the separatists' attempts to hold a rally in the Jamia Masjid in the old city.

Police and paramilitary forces have imposed curfew like restrictions in the old city areas of Srinagar, sealing all entry points into the summer capital.

Authorities have put senior separatist leaders including All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Umer Farooq under house arrest in Srinagar.
