Members of Parliament of the 14^th Lok Sabha -- both for and against the government -- will have only ten seconds during which they have to make a decision who they will vote for and press the button on the voting machine to cast their vote.

If they fail to do so their vote will be held invalid according to Lok Sabha Secretary General P D T Achary, who explained how the voting system will work on Doordarshan Lok Sabha on Monday morning.

In the event of any confusion, an MP could summon a voting slip from Lok Sabha officials and indicate her/his vote. All slips would be counted by Lok Sabha staff and tallied with the electronic scorecard before the Speaker announces the result.

Five time Lok Sabha BJP MP and a veteran of many no confidence motions from 1989 to 2004 Ram Naik said this would not create any confusion amongst the MPs. "They have been voting all along and are pretty accustomed to this system."

Even if a MP miscasts her/his vote it can be immediately rectified. This system, though, will help in an immediate formal decision on the fate of the Manmohan Singh [Images] government, he added.
