A day after the Centre handed over the sensational Noida double murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Central agency got one-day remand of prime accused Dr Rajesh Talwar.
The CBI had moved the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Gautam Buddha Nagar, A K Singh on Monday morning seeking seven-day remand for Dr Talwar, but the court granted it only a day's remand.
Since the CBI has so far not named Dr Talwar as an accused, it moved the CJM's court for remand and not the CBI special court, CBI sources explained.
Meanwhile, the Noida police barricaded all roads leading to Dr Talwar's residence in Sector 25. "Perhaps they will bring Dr Talwar to his house for questioning," said a police official.
The Department of Personnel and Training issued a notification handing over probe to CBI on Saturday night.
Earlier, the family of Aarushi had demanded a CBI probe into the case after her father Rajesh Talwar, a noted dentist, was arrested on charges of killing Aarushi and the family's domestic help Hemraj.
The Talwar family had alleged that they were being made a "shocking scapegoat." Echoing the family's demand, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had later recommended for a CBI inquiry into the killing.
There were charges against the Noida police against goofing up the case.
Aarushi's body was found in her Jalvayu Vihar apartment on May 16 and the police had immediately suspected domestic help Hemraj as the prime suspect.
They were, however, proved wrong when Hemraj's body was spotted on the terrace of the building the next day.
Police had later taken the father into custody, alleging that Dr Talwar killed Aarushi in a fit of rage, as he objected her closeness to Hemraj.
Dr Talwar's wife Nupur, who is also a dentist, has defended her husband, saying he is innocent and both of them discovered Aarushi's body together.
