Jammu and Kashmir [Images] Governor Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha shall be demitting his office on June 25 and leaving Raj Bhavan on the same date, according to a communiqu issued by his office.
The statement released on Sunday evening seems to have come in response to state Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Kara's press statement wherein he had stated that continuation of General Sinha in Raj Bhavan after issuance of the Presidential notification appointing N N Vohra as his successor was creating 'constitutional and legal problems'.
"It is unprecedented that a governor shows reluctance to move out even after the issuance of the notification," Kara said in Srinagar [Images].
The Raj Bhavan statement is being seen as an attempt to dispel impressions that General Sinha was reluctant to move out.
"The Governor has accepted some requests by different organizations for his farewell functions in Srinagar and Jammu. This will be done concurrently with packing his belongings at both places," Raj Bhavan spokesman said on Sunday evening.
He described as baseless 'speculations persistently being made by a section of the press despite repeated denials that General Sinha wants to stay on in the state and has been lobbying for it with various authorities and individuals'.
The spokesman added, "General Sinha has never made any request for extension or staying back in Srinagar as is being repeatedly made out by a section of the media."
