With a view to ensure safe living for the people of Jammu and Kashmir [Images], the Army has started training school children on how to identify explosive devices.

'Romeo Force', the Army's counter insurgency group, has organised workshops in the remote areas of Poonch district for students of class 10 and 12, to train them on how to identify various explosive devices and undertake safety measures to save lives, defence sources told PTI.

A variety of Improvised Explosive Devices, landmines and grenades, made by militants to trigger blasts, were on display at the workshops, in which over 200 students from various schools of Poonch district participated, they said.

They said IEDS fitted with radio sets, gas cylinders, tiffins, pressure cookers, cycles and mobiles were displayed in these workshops.

As many as 14 school children have lost their lives and 37 have been handicapped in IEDS blasts in Poonch district in the last one year.
