Seven persons accused of being involved in smuggling activities for Sri Lanka's [Images] Tamil Tiger rebels and the Maoist movement have been detained under the National Security Act (NSA).
While three of them were involved in smuggling activities for the LTTE, the others were part of the Maoist movement, a release said.
The Maoists cadres Mahalingam, Balamurugan, Muruganandam and Marudhu, belonging to different places in the state, were arrested from Varushanadu in Theni a few months ago.
Cases were filed against them under various sections of the IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act and Criminal Law Amendment Act.
Murugapandi, Muthuramalingam and R Raja were arrested for involvement in smuggling activities for the LTTE, the release said. Mahalingam was lodged in the Puzhal Prison near here while the rest were detained in the Madurai Central prison, the release added.
