The Jammu and Kashmir [Images] police on Thursday added a rare feather to its cap, as one of its members scaled the world's highest mountain peak.

"Constable Ram Singh of the Jammu and Kashmir police, who was a member of this years Mount Everest [Images] expedition, has reached the summit of the worlds highest mountain Thursday morning, hoisting the Jammu and Kashmir police flag there today," state director general of police, Kuldeep Khuda told media persons in Srinagar [Images].

Khuda said constables Ram Singh and Sajjad Haider of Jammu and Kashmir police were put through intensive training, along with a group of police personnel under the aegis of the ministry of home affairs.

"Constable Ram Singh reached the Mount Everest summit at 6 am on Thursday. He hoisted the state police flag at the summit this morning," Khuda said."Constable Sajjad Haider made it to the advance camp with the group," The DGP added.

Terming Singh's achievement as a great honour for state police, the DGP said, "Our boys do not only fight militancy here, they are also bringing honors to the state in the fields of sports and expedition."
