With the Indian Mujahideen [Images] claiming responsibility for the serial blasts in New Delhi [Images], the hunt for Taufique Bilal alias Abdul Subhan Qureshi has been intensified.

According to both investigators and Intelligence Bureau officials, Subhan is the man who set up the Indian Mujahideen under instructions from the banned Students Islamic Movement of India. The IB says that Subhan's will solve the mystery surrounding the Indian Mujahideen.

The IB says that the IM operates out of Mumbai, Subhan's hometown. Subhan, who is considered as the IT face of SIMI [Images], is a resident of Masjid Bunder in south Mumbai.

Subhan had worked in several IT firms but quit stating that he wanted to dedicate himself to religious activities. He was handpicked up SIMI's chief Safdar Nagori, who has since been arrested, for his computer skills.

The IB says that he had extensive computer knowledge and is well versed in cyber masking technologies, which makes it hard for investigators to track down the e-mails sent by the IM.

The IB says Subhan made the Light Emitting Diodes, which were used in the blasts at Bangalore, Ahmedabad [Images] and New Delhi. Subhan, according to the IB, played a key role in all the three blasts which were planned at the same time.

IB sources say Subhan organised training camps in Karnataka, Hyderabad and Mumbai. During these camps, he recruited youth into the IT cell of the SIMI and imparted training on how to make bombs using the Internet.

IB officials say that Subhan may not be in India and could have possibly fled the country after the Ahmedabad blasts. The police however had come very close to nabbing Subhan earlier this year. He was with Nagori when the SIMI chief was nabbed in Indore, but managed to escape.
