Tamil film actor-turned-politician Vijayakant, involved in a dispute with noted comedian Vadivelu, on Monday accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi of foisting cases against him using Vadivelu as a tool.
Reacting to a police case registered against him following a complaint by Vadivelu in connection with the attack on the comedian's residence and office on Sunday, Vijayakant, who heads the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam party, said: "Vadivelu is acting on DMK's instigation, as Karunanidhi and the party are unable to bear the rise of DMDK."
"The police had foisted a case, but such things cannot deter me," he told media persons in Chennai.
Vadivelu was 'being used as a tool', by the DMK in this issue, 'as he is issuing contradicting statements.'
Vadivelu's house was attacked allegedly by around 40 DMDK workers a day before he was to depose in a local court in a case involving him and a functionary of DMDK.
Even on Monday, a motorcycle-borne gang pelted stones at Vadivelu's residence and office, inflicting slight injuries on one inmate, police said.
The actor was in the house at the time of the incident, but escaped unhurt. Some furniture was damaged, police said.
Both Vadivelu and Vijaykanth are neighbours also hail from Madurai [Images] and acted together in a number of films.
Vijaykant alleged that his recent meeting with CPI-M state Secretary N Varadarajan, which led to speculations of electoral ties between the two parties, had also 'angered' Karunanidhi.
The actor-politician advised Karunanidhi to use his resources for people rather than using them against DMDK.
"He has not done anything worthwhile on the water front since DMK came to power," he said in an apparent reference to the state's disputes with neighbouring states such as Karnataka (Cauvery), Kerala [Images] (Mullaiperiyar) and Andhra Pradesh (Palar).
Vijayakant parried queries on alliances and termed as a 'courtesy call', his last week's meeting with Varadarajan.
