The Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy was manhandled and abused by a group of lawyers in a court room at the Madras High Court on Tuesday. A group of advocates entered the court hall of Justice P K Mishra and K Chandru, while they were hearing a petition in connection with the 'Chidambaram temple case', in which Swamy was present to plead himself.
Shouting pro-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam slogans, the advocates hurled eggs and manhandled him in the presence of the two judges.
They drove out a police officer present in the court and bolted the door before attacking Swami. They also did not allow the Central Reserve Police Force security personnel to enter the court.
The lawyers in the high court and lower courts in Tamil Nadu have been 'boycotting' court proceedings on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue for the past few weeks.
