Jammu and Kashmir [Images] Chief Minister Omar Abdullah [Images] has urged the world community to assist in toning down the mounting Indo-Pak tensions in the wake of the Mumbai attacks.

In a teleconference with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband, who is presently on a visit to India, Omar said that the quality of Indo-Pak relations has great bearings on Jammu and Kashmir and its people as "they get positively or negatively impacted by the nature of the relations between the two neighbouring countries."

Omar urged upon the British official to use his influence to make the international community play its role to "ease the tension between the two countries."

He said the two countries have already initiated various confidence-building measures, including cross-LoC trade and people-to-people contact, which have 'generated tremendous goodwill and the same are required to be carried forward in the interest of both the countries'.

While appreciating the strong foundation of skill and technical development laid in Britain, the chief minister expressed his 'keen desire to work with the UK for modernizing technical education system and skill development in Jammu and Kashmir in tune with the present and futuristic job market requirements across the globe.'
